Wattbike Compatible VESA Screen mount with Apple TV Backpack – completely remodelled.

April 29, 2021 by Ian

After much testing, designing, printing, testing… you get the idea, I decided to remodel the VESA mount based on a new, more substantial and certainly more adaptable core bracket design.

Available NOW in limited numbers

Buy Now

This revised approach to the bracket design removes the requirement to use the top of the bar, and thus removes the need to ‘nurture’ the bracket around the bar corners. Additionally, you’ll see from the photos below that it’s fairly substantial and therefore holds more weight. Some may say over-designed. However, when it’s holding your expensive tablet or VESA monitor, then that’s cool.

The current tested weight is 2.5kg MAX for the screen. If you are looking for the perfect Wattbike VESA UHD 4K screen for your AppleTV 4K, then I can’t recommend this one from Amazon highly enough (This is NOT a sponsored link). I like it so much, I use it myself – see photos.

IMPORTANT: The new Apple TV has NOT changed in size and is still 98mm x 98mm X 35mm

More Beef

The actual VESA mounting plate has also been beefed up a little, adding more rigidity and reducing screen wobble. It also allows for both VESA75 and VESA100 standards using the same bracket.

Apple TV Mount

On top of all this, it’s super easy to fit and extremely flexible to use – as you can see from the photo below, I also use the same bracket reversed for my Apple TV ‘Backpack’. The bracket is attached by simply sliding onto the existing mounting bar and finger-tightening the four bolts that grip the bar with super-human strength. No need to over tighten here!

Material Update

Materials have changed too. I’ve been experimenting with different printing materials and have settled on a specific PETG blend that is incredibly strong and more resistant to heat. It also allows for far more flex and is considerably less brittle than the previous PLA material used.

Low Rider

The photos above show how adaptable this new approach is. You can adjust the height of the mounting bar and then adjust the position of the brackets, so you can get the screen a lot lower with this VESA bracket approach – lower than the original mounting. And the design has allowances so as not to have to remove the original bottom mounting bracket from the Wattbike.

The top screen bracket shown in the photos is entirely optional. I was simply testing the spacing and using both together (I use them both all the time). The photos show my current permanent Wattbike Dual Display AppleTV setup.

I think I may be now at peace with this one! …and relax.

Wattbike compatible VESA Screen mount – with added APPLE TV ‘Backpack’ mount.

March 29, 2021 by Ian

Well, this has been quite a challenge. To design a robust solution to mount VESA monitor onto the Wattbike AND allow for my multi-screen too.

The mounting kit is currently in testing. I had material issues with the Apple TV ‘Backpack’ bending due to residual heat created by the ATV (Apple TV) unit. Now redesigned with more room for warm air to flow and dissipate which has solved any heat issues. Running the ATV at full tilt to stress it!

V2 of my integrated Wattbike Compatible Dual Screen Extension is now ready for purchase

March 25, 2021 by Ian

Based completely on user feedback of the incredibly successful Version 1 (V1), I have now completed and tested my creatively named Version 2 (V2), and it’s for purchase here

You asked, and I answered. The V2 now incorporated a fixing for an additional phone holder to add flexibility to the Wattbike compatible dual-screen solution. This will enable you to swap between a phone (either landscape or portrait) and a device or tablet at will!

  • Wattbike Compatible dual screen with landscape phone
  • Wattbike Compatible dual screen with portrait phone
  • Wattbike compatible dual screen extension V2
Wattbike Compatible dual screen with tablet

The phone holder is an additional purchase, so if you don’t require it, you still can benefit from the V2 improved features such as 200m more height for larger devices or tablets and slightly improved gripping strength from minor adjustments to the clamping (not that the V1 performed badly in that dept.)

If you have the V1, and don’t require the phone option, then there’s no real-life benefit to upgrade. If you want to upgrade anyway, then contact me for a generous discount code for existing customers.

Happy Wattbiking!

The redesign of my Wattbike Dual Screen Compatible extension takes off on the Wattbike Facebook Forum.

March 15, 2021 by Ian

So, I decided to go back to ground zero for my dual screen/device holder. This is a regular thing for me – always looking to tweak and improve. However, this was a 3 am inspirational wake-up call!

First thing after a completed coffee and breakfast, I emptied my stored ideas into a Fusion360 design. A massive shift-change to the devices designed previously, to attempt and integrate both the bottom screen with the top screen in one easy-to-fit and easy-to-use bracket, whilst using a tried and tested tablet tripod fixing for the additional tablet/device.

The result is…

  • Wattbike Atom Compatible Integrated Dual Device Extension
  • Wattbike COmpatible Dual Screen Mount Extension
Wattbike COmpatible Dual Screen Mount Extension

Pretty happy with it so far. A few more tweaks, to make in the future but the response from my fellow Wattbikers at the Facebook forum have been very receptive to the idea.

This bad-boy can take a huge 12.9 inch iPad Pro on the existing frame. It’s also incredibly solid (8Kg kettlebell weight challenge to follow).

The whole clamping mechanism has been greatly simplified and significantly improved. But most of all, the simplicity is fab. Very happy with this one. Now at version 8 point something!

A huge thanks for all those that have shown their support so far. On overwhelming response for this one.

At last! Development and testing of my iPad or tablet mounting system for the Wattbike Atom

March 7, 2021 by Ian

It’s been a while in development, but I’ve eventually got to a solid and tested version of my dual-screen mount that uses the original Wattbike Atom bracket.

wattbike dual screen tabklet or ipad mount

I’m really happy with the design and solution now. I have tested this thoroughly over the last two weeks, making small teaks and one big one! It’s been a challenge after setting off in a direction and then making a 360 turn halfway through the development.

What I’ve learnt is that if it’s not working, then don’t be afraid to scrap your current direction and start again – taking what you have learnt into the new version – and it’ll be better – in theis case, a lot better!

See my shop for my final design. The early testers have been over the moon with the fit, finish and all-important function. This solution is so much more flexible than anything I can see in the current marketplace.

I hope you like what I’ve done. This project started as a totally personal project and has organically spread into a low-volume solution based around people with the same requirement.

Off to set the printer off – again!|
